Note 80 — Chapter II · THE SEVEN PROVINCES OF SCOTLAND.

Reading edition

The principal act of Gilchrist’s life was the foundation of the Priory of Monimusk, and Thomas, the Doorward, confirms the grant by his grandfather and his mother. His son Alan declares, in 1257, that Morgund and his son Duncan were illegitimate, and in 1291 the Earl of Mar complains that when William the Lion restored the Earldom to Morgund, ‘deficiebant tres centum librate terre.’—Ant. Ab. and Banff, vol. iv. p. 151.
