Note 778 — Chapter IX · EXTINCTION OF THE OLD CELTIC CHURCH IN SCOTLAND.

Reading edition

All the notices above referred to will be found in a valuable and exhaustive paper by Dr. Reeves on St. Maelrubha: his History and Churches, in the Proc. Ant. Soc. Scot., vol. iii. p. 258. Dr. Reeves considers that this family sprang from the herenachs, or hereditary farmers of the abbey lands, but the notices rather indicate a family of hereditary sagarts or priests.
