Note 423 — Chapter V · UNIVERSITY MEN AND NATIONAL MOVEMENTS
Reading edition
Stanton is a Cambridge place-name; other names derived from places in the district (besides of course ‘Cambridge’ and ‘Croyland’) being Walsingham, Walpole, Gaunt, Balsham, Bourne, Chatteris, Haddon, Milton, Newton, Caxton, Drayton, Brandon, Connington, Shelford; and Chancellor Haselfield (1300, 1307) probably took his name from Haslyngfield. Long Stanton was the seat of the Hattons.
