Mr. Gilbert Walmsley, an early friend and patron of Dr. Johnson. He was an elegant scholar, and contributed many translations in Latin verse to the Gentleman’s Magazine. He died on the 3rd August, 1751. A monument to his memory has been reared in Lichfield Cathedral.
