The elms are white elm (Ulmus americana), cork elm (Ulmus racemosa), slippery elm (Ulmus pubescens), cedar elm (Ulmus crassifolia), wing elm (Ulmus alata), and red elm (Ulmus serotina). They are all confined to the region east of the Rocky Mountains.
