A Wreath of Indian Stories

Note 27 — IV. The Pink Chaddar.[27]

Reading edition

The chaddar (literally sheet) is a garment not worn in all parts of India, but very commonly in the Punjaub. It is something like a large veil, made of muslin or some other light material, and is worn in the house as well as out of it. Anything more graceful, picturesque, and modest-looking can hardly be imagined.
