Note 495 — ACT II., SCENE I.

Reading edition

According to Heywood's, "If you know not me, you know nobody," Part II., Queen Elizabeth, when she christened the Royal Exchange, after it had been built by Sir T. Gresham, changed its name from the Burse, which it had been previously called—

"Proclaim through every high street of this city, This place be no longer called a Burse, But since the building's stately, fair, and strange, Be it for ever call'd the Royal Exchange."

Sig. H 2. The terms were afterwards often used indifferently, and Pisaro, just before, calls the Exchange the Burse.
