Covetousness: a common Ffon phrase is, “E su nukun” (he has a big eye). Mr. Duncan (vol. i. p. 217), calls him an “excellent old man, and very different from the generality of uncivilised Africans, not having that covetous and selfish disposition usual with them.” Now it is notoriously the contrary.
