Note 44 — Chapter XXX

Reading edition

The story of an Irish Hippolytus, whose death at his father's hands is compassed by his step-mother, spretæ injuria formæ. O'Curry mentions this tale, MS. Materials, p. 277. It is one of the stories in the catalogue of the Book of Leinster, under the head of Tragedies. Another Hippolytus story is that of the death of Comgan, son of the King of the Decies, quoted by O'Curry, "Manners and Customs," vol. ii. p. 204, but I do not know from what MS.
