Note 44 — Chapter III
Reading edition
Nuttall must mean Henderson, Kentucky, the words “in Indiana” referring to the location of Evansville, about twelve miles above. Henderson, incorporated in 1810, is the seat of Henderson County, and was at this time Audubon’s residence; it was in 1818 that the botanist Rafinesque visited him there. See note 175, in Cuming’s Tour, volume iv of our series.-Ed.
