A journal of travels into the Arkansa Territory

Note 203 — Chapter XIV

Reading edition

This river is now known as the Cimarron. A smaller stream, some distance above, is alone properly called Salt Fork of the Arkansas. The two waterways and their names were long confused. Among the tributaries of the Arkansas from the west, the Cimarron is second only to the Canadian in size. It rises in the mountains of New Mexico.—Ed.
