Weiss, La Chambre ardente, étude sur la liberté de conscience en France, sous François I. et Henri II., 1540-50 (Paris, 1889), is very valuable from the collection of documents which it contains. Crespin’s Histoire des martyrs, etc., when tested by the official documents now accessible, has been found to be almost invariably correct, and without exaggeration.
