Note 901 — Chapter I · DECADENCE AND EXTINCTION.

Reading edition

Discusion, pp. 38-40.—The law of the Partidas thus revived was P. VII, Tit. xxvi, ley 2, which says that heretics can be accused by any one before a bishop or his vicar, who shall examine them on the articles of faith and sacraments. If error is found he must labor to convert them by reason and persuasion when, if willing to be converted, they are to be reconciled and pardoned. If persistent they are to be handed over to the secular judge for punishment by fire or otherwise. The revival of the law was only as regards the functions of the bishops.
