Archivo de Simancas, Inq., Sala 40, Lib. 4, fol. 235.—Conradi Gesneri de Differentiis Animalium is prohibited in the Index of 1559 (Reusch, Die Indices, p. 219). The Index contains several clauses prohibiting all books of divination, necromancy, invocation of demons, etc. (Ibid., pp. 217, 226, 227, 236), but there is nothing specially against the Cabala.
