Note 106b — Chapter VI · EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Reading edition
As a similar instance to that named in the text, the school at Kingston on Thames is now called “Queen Elizabeth’s,” but it was founded by Bishop Edington, in 1364. It may here be mentioned that the grammar school of Bruton, Somerset, which was originally founded in 1519, was re-established by Edward VI., “by letters patent, dated June 20, 1549, Corpus Christi day,” on which day the Governors, Masters, and Scholars still attend a special commemoration service in the Parish Church.
