This book actually belongs to the nineteenth century, having been published at Berlin in 1803-5 (4 vols.) But Eberhard was then a man over sixty; he had published a Theorie der schönen Künste und Wissenschaften twenty years earlier, and his general position is that of the third quarter of the eighteenth.
